RAPLA – Port of Parnu couldn’t capitalize on the golden opportunity to claim their second victory in Triobet BBL this season, wasting an eight-point lead in the final frame before finally surrendering 78-75 to AVIS Rapla in an all-Estonian clash in Group A on Tuesday evening.

AVIS Rapla continued their excellent start of the season by extending the winning streak to three games, which puts the side’s overall record at 5-2. Meanwhile, even a 40-point performance by Andrew Warren wasn’t enough for Port of Parnu.

After a relatively even opening quarter, Port of Parnu managed to get a slight edge over their rivals in the second period, but the nip-and-tuck battle continued until the end of the first half for the most part.

Up 37-33 at the halftime break, the visitors maintained the upper hand in the third period, but AVIS Rapla stayed close. However, a 6-0 run to close the third quarter saw Port of Parnu take a 55-49 lead into the final frame.

The hosts had fallen behind by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter, but battled back and took the lead at 62-61 with three minutes remaining after Martin Paasoja drained a jumper.

Port of Parnu had tied things up at 66-66, but Domagoj Bubalo gave AVIS Rapla the lead once again with a dunk while Sven Kaldre capitalized on a turnover and converted a fast break to make it a four-point game.

Andrew Warren had cut Port of Parnu’s deficit to a single point, but the hosts sealed the win with confident play down the stretch.

Bubalo finished the game with 20 points and nine rebounds, Kaldre chipped in with 15 points and four assists, while Devin Brooks also added 15.

Rain Raadik was the only other Port of Parnu player, other than Warren, to reach double figures, with 10 points and seven rebounds to his name. Triobet BBL November MVP Paulius Petrilevicius added seven points, seven rebounds.
