BBL Weekly Review: Volume 5

After a week with only two games played, the Baltic Basketball League (BBL) follows up with an action packed one. 18 games were played throughout the two week period and the BBL presents a conjunct review of all the main events and spectacular performances that took place.

MVP. Janis Timma added another individual award to his name, as the Ventspils forward snatched the Most Valuable Player honors for the month of November.

SNAPPED. The six-game winning streak snapped in Sweden for Pyrinto as they suffered their first defeat against the Norrkoping Dolphins.

UNDEFEATED. After the Fins lost, only one team remains undefeated in the BBL. Pieno zvaigzdes have won seven straight and look solid atop of Group C.

COLD. On the other side of the standings, Valga Maks&Moorits have yet to achieve a victory – after two close losses this week, they dropped to a 0-7 record. They now remain the only team not to have secured a victory after Liepaja/Triobet edged Barsy.

HEATING UP. Having started the season with three losses in a row, Barons have gone on a five-game winning streak, with the latest 88-69 victory coming against Caspiy.

CHARITY STRIPE. Dmitriy Gavrilov set a new season record with 14 free-throw attempts. However, the Kazakh only converted on eight of them.

TURNOVERS. Aidas Viskontas also set his name in this season’s record book. The point guard committed 9 turnovers and was only two shy from the all-time record.

Kristaps Dargais had an outstanding performance against Jekabpils, as he scored 25 points and corralled 7 rebounds. Dargais is this week’s MVP with 29 ranking points to his name.

Second on the list is Joakim Kjellbom 16.6 points, 10 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots, leading to an average of 26.3 ranking points.

Edgaras Zelionis was just as great, as he averaged 21.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in three games for Barsy. He is currently the top scorer in the league.

Mindaugas Lukauskis scored 16 points and dished out 7 assists, thus amassing 25 ranking points in Prienai’s single game throughout the past two weeks.

Janis Timma closes out the top five with a great performance against Barsy. The Latvian scored 14 points, tore down 9 rebounds and dished out 4 assists to collect a total of 24 ranking points.
