JEKABPILS ‒ Jekabpils finished the BBL regular season with a win, defeating Tallinna Kalev 88-67 to improve to a 7-5 record and seal the third spot in Group A.

The Latvian team had already qualified to the playoffs previously, while the visitors from the Estonian capital had their last hopes taken away, dropping to 3-9.

The hosts ran away to a double-digit lead already in the early going, taking a 14-2 lead after Michal Hlebowicki’s lay-up.

Although Tallinna Kalev hadn’t allowed Jekabpils to get out of sight, a three-pointer each from Troy Barnies and Rinalds Sirsnins restored a double-digit gap at 42-32  at the halftime break.

After a 9-0 run midway through the third quarter, Jekabpils increased the gap to 63-38 and answered all the essential questions even before the start of the final period.

Troy Barnies put together another impressive display, finishing the game with 21 points, five rebounds and six assists, Pavels Veselovs had 18 points, while Martins Kravcenko added 12.

Kaido Saks and Reimo Tamm collected 17 points apiece for Tallinna Kalev, while Renato Lidmets was the only other player in double digits for the visitors.
