Jekabpils hand Valmiera first loss in style

VALMIERA – Playing without the October MVP Martins Laksa proved to be too much of a challenge for Valmiera/ORDO, as they were dismantled by Latvian foes Jekabpils, 59-78. That marked the first loss for Valmiera, as they now hold a 2-1 record.

Valmiera had thing going their way early on, but that did not last long, as Jekabpils reacted with a 16-0 run to jump ahead by double digits.

The home side managed to get back into the game and actually jump ahead just a couple minutes into the second quarter, but once again a bad run knocked them back a mile.

It was still just a two point game 26 minutes into the game, but that’s when Jekabpils got really hot. Another big run, this time 13-0 helped them regain control of the game and allowed some breathing space for the visitors.

The fourth quarter was no better for Valmiera, as Jekabpils kept on increasing the margin, sprinting to the finish.

Three players – Oskars Virsis, Andrejs Selakovs and Roberts Stumbris – scored 13 points apiece, leading Jekabpils to the victory, while the latter two also added 9 rebounds to the total. Jurijs Aleksejevs was also strong amongst the boards, as he chipped in with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Janis Antrops ended the game with 10.

On the other end, Raimonds Gabrans was the main man, as he scored 15. Janis Kaufmanis added 12 points to the tally, while both Lauris Blaus and Akselis Vairogs ended the game with 10.
