The reigning BBL champions Ventspils and finalists Prienai will join the hosts Nevezis and Tartu Rock from Estonia in the battle for the first trophy of the year. Last season, only Nevezis failed to advance from the regular season, while the three other teams topped their respective groups.
However, the hosts of the tournament have built a strong team and have much higher ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
“Step by step, we’re moving forward and looking more like a team that we expect to see throughout the rest of the season. Like in every single game, our goals are going to be high. We understand that this is only the introduction for the season, but we really want to give the fans some positive emotions,” said the home team’s general manager Karolis Kalvaitis.
The first Vikonda BBL Cup semi-final, set to start on Saturday at 17:00 local time, will feature two Lithuanian teams – Nevezis and Prienai, while the second semi-final between Ventspils and Rock will tip off at 19:30.
The losers of the semi-finals will meet in the game for third place at 13:15 on Sunday, while the winner of the tournament will be decided after the final, which will start at 15:45.
