Siauliai lock Liepaja down, win big

LIEPAJA - Lockdown defense was the key to victory for Siauliai, as the Lithuanians took home a huge, 91-43 win from Liepaja, ending Betsafe/Liepaja's two win streak.

This game was settled way before it even got to the halfway mark, but it seemed it might be a bit more competitive, at least at the start of the game. Seven minutes into the game, it was just a single-point advantage for the visitors, but a couple of easy baskets allowed them to add another seven points before the end of the quarter.

Things got ugly in the second quarter, when following a 13-0 run to finish the half, Siauliai reached a 23-point advantage. They kept on piling the points after the break as well and already held  a 34-point lead with a quarter to spare.

It's safe to say the final quarter was merely a formality. Despite that, the Lithuanians had some more fun and increased their advantage to 48 points with their final basket of the game.

It was a well-rounded performance from the whole roster, as Antanas Sireika allowed every single player at least 15 minutes of game time. Sarunas Beniusis used his 20 minutes well, tabbing a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Vytautas Sarakauskas added 12 points to the tally, while the trio of Omar PrewittArminas Urbutis and Rytis Pipiras all finished with 10 points to their names.

In a gutless performance from the Latvian side, Toms Leimanis was the only player to carry his load, scoring 11 points to lead his team in scoring.
