Triobet BBL player of the week – Thomas van der Mars

Six games of the 2016-2017 Triobet Baltic Basketball League are in the books, alongside the first week, and it turns out there was no one who could deliver better for his team than Dutch center Thomas van der Mars did.

The 25-year-old forward torched Lithuanian side Nevezis with 23 points and led AVIS Rapla to a great 91:77 victory. Van der Mars also excelled with 13 rebounds and missed only three shots form the field. All that led to highest efficiency in a winning performance this week and secured Triobet BBL MVP of the week honors for van der Mars.

Just behind van der Mars' efficiency (34) were two Latvians. Mārtiņš Laksa from Valmiera/Ordo also scored 23 points and finished with an efficiency rating of 31, while his team dominated Tarvas. The Estonian team managed to score only 52 ponts against the Latvian champions, while Valmiera got 85 and cruised to a convincing victory.

The second Latvian who threatened van der Mars' Player of the week award was Andrejs Šeļakovs, who has returned to Jekabpils this season and already proved his abilities in the first Triobet BBL game. Playing away at Ogre, Šeļakovs tallied an impressive double-double – 18 points and 15 rebounds. However, misfortunes from free throw line (only 4/12) hurt his efficiency, which was still at an impressive 28. It was the third best efficiency this week and Jekabpils' overtime win against tough Ogre/Kumho Tyre just made it sweeter.
