VENTSPILS ‒ Liepaja/Triobet couldn’t put up a fight against the defending BBL champions Ventspils, who took a 71-61 victory in a clash between two Latvian sides on Friday.

Following the win, Ventspils improved to a 7-2 record in Group B, while the visitors from Liepaja dropped to 2-6.

The hosts shot ahead right from the get-go, starting the game with a 14-1 run and increasing the lead to 26-11 after the first quarter.

Although Liepaja/Triobet managed to stop the bleeding and stopped the lead from growing at a cosmic rate, they couldn’t string together a run to get back in contention.

Having finished the first half with a 16-point deficit at 41-25, the closest the guests got to Ventspils in the third quarter was 34-47 after Paul Hill’s basket.

Liepaja/Triobet finished the game strong to close the gap to 10 points eventually, but it was a case of too little, too late.

Harvey Grant has his best game of the season for Ventspils so far, scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds, as Ronalds Zakis added 15 points and eight boards.

Point guard Lorenzo Williams collected 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and swatted away two shots as well.

For Liepaja/Triobet, Paul Hill had a team-high 18 points and four assists, while Artis Ate finished the evening with nine points in his account.
